Greensides Results 17/08/2008 What a fantastic turnout we had yet again this month, we had a total of 64 players 61 men and 3 ladies.
Out of the ladies Debbie Stevens and Bet Petley lost in the first round however they both played exceedingly well and in one of the legs that Debbie won she took out a 155 finish absolutely superb darts from these ladies, Tricia Wright lost in the quarters to Ben Burton in which was also a superb game, well done ladies for entering and playing so well against the men, it is just a shame that we could not get a lot more ladies enter and then they could have their own knockout you never know it might still happen.
In the men’s last months winner Clive Barden was not available as he had other commitments and the runner up Justin Thurley lost in the first round to the eventual winner.
There were to many talented men there to many to mention but to watch John Scott, Paul Hogan, Roy Prior, Vern Sheppard, Jim Penman, Sean Lowndes, Peter Mitchell, Alan Casey, I could go on, but some of these players are ones to watch out for the future in our sport of darts, well done to everyone who turned up and played and made this competition one of the best in South London, a great big thank you to you all because without you guys the competition could not go ahead. Also thanks to the lads from Sussex who turn up each month. Ian Holman and his crew.
Once again the standard of the darts was excellent and to see so many youngsters also take part is great for the game. Grant Taylor, Daniel King-Morris, Luke Langley Rob Metcalfe, those youth are our future, once again to many to mention all of you.
Once again our line up for the semis were new faces ( except Ben ) Ian Long 4 v Spike Harris 3 and John Jenkinson 4 v Ben Burton 3 both superb semis.
However in the final Ian Long showed what a great player he is he beat John Jenkinson 5 nil in the final and it was a case of who hit the double first.
Ian Long winner £200 John Jenkinson £100 Ben Burton, £40 Spike Harris £40 and furthest lady Tricia Wright £40.
May I say thanks to everyone once again at Greensides our normal lady Julie was away on holiday but her Son and the other staff and cook did such a wonderful job whilst she was away ( so you see they can mange without you ) LOL. Thank you to everyone who helped set up the hall for the darts Ian Dawson Johnny Stefano Peter Haste to name but a few, because without your help also this tournament could not go ahead, thanks to Tony Reeves who helped me out at the top table when Tricia was playing. Our next knockout is on Sunday 7th September 2008.
